Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV)
The Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV) is the national standards organization of Switzerland and represents the interests of the Swiss economy and society in global standardization. Organized as an association, a 40-strong team in Winterthur ensures efficient access to national and international standards. At the affiliated SNV Academy, interested parties can obtain further training on current topics relating to the world of standards. The program comprises more than 70 courses, which are led by 30 lecturers from science and practice.

The initial situation
Standards - why you can't get past them
Standards have become an integral part of today's globalized world - if they didn't exist, many things would be more complicated. One very important standard, for example, is SN EN ISO 6346:2022. This regulates the rules for the marking and identification of freight containers. It is thanks to this standard that the global transportation of goods by sea, rail and road functions smoothly and that containers can always be transported to their destination.
The distance between the bars on a barbecue grill, payment methods in mobile banking or the properties of fuels: There is virtually nothing for which there is no standard. So if you want to offer goods or services on the international market, you would be well advised to know your way around standards - or even actively help to shape them and thus secure a competitive advantage.
In order to give interested parties an understanding of the world of standardization and the benefits of SNV membership, the SNV Academy decided to impart basic knowledge about standards in e-learning modules for the first time.

The solution
Digital training as an introduction to the world of standardization
In coordination with youknow, two training courses were created: "The 1×1 of standardization " and "The path to standardization ", which convey compact knowledge of standards in an interactive way. Learners are guided through the 20 minutes of learning time by the charming main character "Norma".
In the training course "The 1×1 of standardization", the most important standardization organizations and standard abbreviations are presented. The legal framework conditions are also highlighted. The role of standards as a door opener to the global market is also highlighted.
The module "The path to standardization" explains how a company can get involved in standardization nationally and internationally and the advantages of active participation. Both modules can be completed independently of each other.
The path to a finished standard can be very lengthy and complex. To make it easy for those interested to enter the world of standardization, the modules are designed to be short and varied: Thus, text-based slides alternate with various other media such as talking-head videos, estimation questions, drag & drop or even hotspot interactions. Simple quiz questions are used to repeat the previously learned knowledge in order to anchor the knowledge in the long term.

„We have also been offering our Workshops and seminars online for several years. This location-independent form of knowledge transfer has been very well received by our interested parties and members. With the new training courses, we are now going one step further. This means that all interested parties can find out about standardization in a completely flexible way. We are looking forward to seeing how the two modules are received.“

Conclusion
Offer is being expanded
An initial test group has already tried out the two training courses and rated them positively - so nothing stands in the way of the launch on the SNV Academy website. After publication, the SNV will start advertising in order to inspire as many interested parties as possible for the world of standardization.
