For the software unit of Volkswagen Group CARIAD SE, it is essential that all employees develop a deep understanding of internal processes and technologies. This is particularly challenging in an environment where over 6,000 engineers and developers work at different locations worldwide and rely on a common platform and tools to collaborate effectively.

The Corporate Process Model (CPM) is the heart of CARIAD's process landscape and was developed to enable smooth and harmonized collaboration across all brands and locations.

The challenge

Process harmonization as a strategic opportunity

Although CPM is intended to play a central role in day-to-day business, many employees were not yet fully aware of it, nor of the associated tool "Stages", which is crucial for the implementation and visualization of these processes.

The heterogeneity of the employees - from newcomers to experienced specialists - made it difficult to provide uniform training in order to do justice to the different levels of knowledge. New employees often do not yet have a comprehensive understanding of CARIAD's internal processes and structures, while more experienced employees are familiar with the tools but rarely make full use of them. In addition, the CPM and "Stages" were not fully anchored in day-to-day workflows, which impaired the efficiency of company-wide process harmonization.

The potential for greater process efficiency was not fully exploited and could be increased by greater awareness and use of CPM and "Stages " within the workforce.

The solution

From virtual spaces to real competence

In collaboration with youknow, a project was launched to sustainably increase the use of the Corporate Process Model (CPM) and the "Stages" tool within the organization. The result: an interactive training camp that uses practical simulations and targeted learning methods to enable employees to better understand and confidently apply key company processes.

The aim of the training was to create a broad understanding of the structure and functioning of the CPM and at the same time to develop practical skills for the effective use of "Stages". There was also a need to motivate employees to actively use the CPM and "Stages" in their daily work processes.

The approach of developing the training in the form of a "training camp" with several interactive learning modules quickly took shape. The aim was to use software simulations to give learners a practical understanding of how "Stages" works, while the structure of CPM was explained in short, easy-to-understand chapters.

In addition, an introductory test was implemented that allowed advanced employees to skip certain basic chapters and go straight to the practice-oriented modules.

Learners were asked to move through different "rooms", each representing a chapter of the training. By completing tasks in each room, the next level was unlocked, similar to an "escape room " principle

A highlight of the training camp was the integration of the software simulations that were developed in the subsequent interactive phase. Learners were able to play through various scenarios directly in the "Stages" tool and immediately apply what they had learned in practice.** The realistic presentation and active interaction in the tool meant that the learning environment was strongly adapted to the employees' day-to-day work.

Conclusion

When learning inspires and knowledge stays

In summary, it can be said that the "CPM & Stages Training Camp" makes a sustainable contribution to process harmonization, the tool is used efficiently and actively contributes to the optimization of company processes. At a time when digitalization and process harmonization are critical success factors, the training camp offers a practical, motivating and effective training format that addresses the different needs of employees.

Another special highlight is the high acceptance of the training format. The innovative combination of escape room elements, software simulations and practical tasks has been met with consistently positive feedback from learners, with participants emphasizing that they were able to internalize the learning material more quickly thanks to the playful approach and that the training was much more motivating than conventional e-learning formats.

„The project was a lot of fun, all the colleagues involved were motivated and full of ideas to make this project exciting. It is an important milestone in our strategy for digitalization and process optimization. The combination of gamification elements, practical software simulations and a personal approach makes the training unique and particularly effective.“

eLearning Award 2025: Adaptive learning

The "CPM & Stages Trainingscamp" was honored with the eLearning Journal Award 2025 in the category "Adaptive Learning" with a focus on "Process Competence". The jury particularly praised the successful combination of escape room structure, software simulations and adaptive learning paths, which respond to the different prior knowledge of the participants. The project was recognized as a convincing example of how digital learning concepts can contribute to process harmonization and more efficient use of company tools.
